When Steve Nash took the head coaching job with the Brooklyn Nets in 2020, many felt it was a great opportunity for him, as he gets to coach Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. It was supposed to be smooth sailing for Nash, with all the talent at his disposal, but warning signs appeared very early on after his appointment, as Kyrie said the team didn’t really need a coach.

Still, he at least had a great relationship with Durant, thanks to the time they spent together at Golden State, but it seems like that is no longer the case either. As KD continues to try to find a way out of Brooklyn, he is reported to have given owner Joe Tsai an ultimatum, which is that Nash and GM Sean Marks need to be fired. It has been a rollercoaster ride for Nash during his time in Brooklyn, and you have to think he probably sees this as just another day in the office. An NBA fan also hilariously posted a video of how he would have reacted to the news of Durant wanting him out.

Nash is probably immune to all the drama at this point, having been at the center of it for so long. While some may have felt that this ultimatum from KD would signal the end of Nash’s time in Brooklyn, Tsai responded to KD’s ultimatum by somewhat surprisingly deciding to side with Nash and Marks.

It is a bold move, but the Nets had to draw the line at some point after agreeing to every demand put forth by Durant and Kyrie over these last few years. With both of them almost certainly heading out now, Nash will get a chance to show what he can do as a coach without all the nonsense going on in the background.
