NBA fans were involved in an intense debate that saw them argue about the four most influential players in the history of the league.

Reacting to a Twitter post that had Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James on the list, fans shared their two cents on the list and the missing names.

One of them believed the list wouldn’t be complete without Allen Iverson.

This was seconded by another who felt Iverson deserved to be there over Curry.

Dirk Nowitzki was one of the names floated. “He was a pioneer of the “stretch four” position and influenced all 7 footers to expand their game. He also created a signature move that half the league uses today in the one-legged fadeaway,” a tweet read.

One of the fans just took offense to MJ being placed in a lower position.

Some wondered why Larry Bird and Magic Johnson weren’t on the list.

The Iverson fans were relentless.

The 60s league stars had their names mentioned as well.

A look at the tweets suggests that the Mount Rushmore of the most influential players in NBA history, is incomplete without Iverson. If it was the likes of Jordan who influenced the 90s, it was ‘The Answer’ who bought the hip-hop culture into the league. Clearly, he was an influence — on and off the court.

What Made Allen Iverson Influential?

To begin with, Allen Iverson was an immensely-talented athlete with phenomenal speed, athleticism, and scoring ability. To date, he is widely regarded as the best 1v1 player in NBA history, known for his signature crossover dribble and his ability to attack the rim despite his size.

He was drafted in 1996 but was immediately underestimated due to his size, but what he did was put in the hard work to prove critics wrong. More importantly, Iverson had the determination and the dog in him to step up in big moments, making him one of the most respected opponents among his peers.

Off the court, it was his style quotient that set him apart as a trendsetter. Multiple tattoos, cornrow braids, headbands, the elbow sleeve, and baggy shorts were a staple and continue to be a style statement to date. Quite simply, Iverson was a role model on and off the floor.
