- LeBron James became the all-time leading scorer in NBA history in February 2023
- Stephen Curry became the all-time leader in threes made in December 2021
- NBA fans debate which of the records is more likely to be broken in the future
LeBron James and Stephen Curry are two of the greatest players in NBA history, and among all their achievements, there are two that stand out. James is now the all-time leading scorer in NBA history, while Curry is the all-time leader in threes made. Both are incredible feats, and NBA fans debated which record is more likely to be broken.
One fan believes it will be Curry’s, “Steph’s without question. The game’s evolving, everyone can shoot. Not everyone can play 21+ yrs averaging 27 a game.”
Kevin Durant can break LeBron’s record a fan said, “KD stays healthy. He is on pace to beat all-time scoring.”
No one will even come close to LeBron’s record said one fan, “Steph’s is more likely to be broken nobody’s getting close to LeBron ever.”
Luka Doncic will surpass LeBron by the time he retires, a fan thinks, “Luka will pass LeBron by the time he’s done.”
One fan had a rather interesting take, “To break LeBron’s you gotta break Curry’s.”
If I had to pick one, I’d be going with Curry’s record being more likely to be broken. It is a lot harder to break, though, than people think.
Curry has made 3,390 threes in his career at an average of 3.8 per game, and the last three seasons have seen the 35-year-old connect on at least 4.5 per game.
Curry was recently asked about retirement, and he stated he’s going to play at least three more seasons. The two-time MVP is going to go well past 4,000 makes at this rate, and it’s hard to see any of the current lot of players getting there.
Damian Lillard might be someone you think could break it, but he is currently at 2,387. Lillard is 33 years old now, and he’s not even going to get close to it.
Trae Young is another name that pops up, but he only averages 2.5 threes made per game for his career at this point. If he continues around this rate, he’d have to play a lot longer than Curry to even stand a chance.
With this three-point revolution, perhaps one day a player will come around to break it, but we are decades away from it happening.
As for LeBron’s scoring record, that one is going to be almost impossible to break. The 38-year-old is now at 38,652 points and the way he’s going, he’s got at least a few years left in him.
LeBron will easily go past 40,000 and Kevin Durant, who is currently at 26,892 points, isn’t going to catch him.
Luka Doncic said he won’t play 20 seasons to break LeBron’s record, and he was probably the one who many felt might have a chance.
Ultimately, you’ll need to average over 27 points per game for more than 20 seasons to surpass LeBron, and the chances of someone doing that are next to none.
