Kawhi Leonard is one of the best superstars in basketball, and there’s no doubt that he has been a player that has shown he could win a championship as the No. 1 option. His 2019 run with the Toronto Raptors was legendary, and there’s no doubt that he reached another level in that season’s playoffs.
In 2019 free agency, Kawhi Leonard notably left the Toronto Raptors to try and win a championship with the Los Angeles Clippers and be closer to his hometown. Thus far though, the superstar has not managed to win at the highest level with the Clippers. Recently, NBA fans debated whether he should have stayed with the Toronto Raptors, with many suggesting that he’d have done better from a basketball standpoint had he remained with the team.

obviously, we would still able to be good even if he load managed and would go back to back
Yea. Would’ve repeated and made a deep run in 2021 and would be consistent contenders (baring injury)
Lol Toronto would have a dynasty, there’s no one these recent years that could beat them.
Basketball wise, yes, but he wanted to be closer with his family and you really can’t argue against that
That team won a championship and Fred Vanvleet, og and Norman were barley in the rotation and all them are all star calliber now not even mentioning Siakams gotten way better that team would be a dynasty lol.
I mean winning as soon as you get to a team says a lot
Would have three peated imo
Kawhi would’ve been the New LeBron he would’ve made the Finals every year
The Raptors would have three-peated if Kawhi stayed and he would have been considered an all-time great right now so yes.
No, he should’ve done what made him happy.
he is raising his family in his home state, life is bigger than basketball
Basketball wise this isn’t even a debate. But he wanted to go home
For sure, at least stayed one more year. Could have made history again
This is definitely a fun debate, and Kawhi Leonard would have definitely had a solid squad had he remained in Toronto after the 2018-19 season. However, the Los Angeles Clippers were contenders in 2020 and 2021, and there’s no guarantee that he would have won a championship with the Raptors during that timespan either. Still, it is definitely an interesting topic of discussion, and it would have been amazing to see Kawhi Leonard spend a few more years with the Raptors.
Kawhi Leonard Has Warm Memories Of Toronto
Though he may have left the team after one season, Kawhi Leonard has some warm memories of his time with the Toronto Raptors. He recently claimed that he always has “great memories” coming back to the arena, and it is clear that he still views the franchise fondly.
“It’s always great memories coming into this arena. If I was to miss a game, I would rather give the fans in Toronto a chance to see me play again and that was a part of my decision.”
There is no doubt that Kawhi Leonard left the Toronto Raptors as a legend, and he is currently trying to forge his legacy with the Los Angeles Clippers. They could definitely end up as a solid team if they remain healthy, especially if Kawhi Leonard performs like a superstar in the playoffs.
It would definitely be interesting to see Kawhi Leonard make his way back to the Toronto Raptors, and perhaps that can happen later on in his career. The franchise would likely welcome him back, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
