NBA Fans Flame Ben Simmons After Agent Calls Him A ‘Basketball Savant’: “This Guy Loves The Game…”

  • Simmons’ agent confirms his client loves the game despite barely playing over the past two seasons
  • Expectations are low for Ben following a disappointing stint with Nets
  • NBA Twitter clowns Ben’s camp for calling him a basketball savant

After making the NBA All-Star team in 2021, Ben Simmons’ career has taken a sharp nosedive. In the playoffs that spring, the team imploded after he passed up an open layup, and he has never recovered his confidence since.

Despite a change of scenery, Simmons isn’t close to his All-Star form, and most fans have already given up on that side of his game. But if you listen to Ben’s agent, Bernie Lee, he’ll challenge that narrative just like he recently did on Sirius XM NBA Radio:

“One thing that impresses me about Ben in every conversation that I have with him is that he’s legitimately a basketball savant. If I wanna engage Ben, I will clips of sets… the guy loves the game, he loves competing understands it at a really high level and I think it’s something he’s going to get back to doing at a really high level,” said Lee.

"The expectation is that, you know, he'll be able to start the season".

The agent, of course, is just doing his job and doing what’s best for his client but it didn’t stop the masses from storming the comments to troll and mock Ben’s ongoing struggles.

Total silly PR by the new agent. Laughable

I do not love that Ben (and his camp) is doing his annual summer PR tour. The more you talk about yourself the more pressure you put on yourself which is something you’ve consistently shied away from. Just do your work and shock the world, but enough with these leaks and clips https://t.co/MZHox8ziF6

If he’s a savant why does he thinks he’s left handed? https://t.co/hbLLBQptx2

It’s nothing personal with Ben, but fans are tired of hearing all the offseason talks only for him to follow it up with a meager performance during the season. Every summer, a new video or quote surfaces to build hype around Simmons, but he has yet to put it all together and make it work when the games actually matter.

In the case of Simmons, things with him are even worse, given how many games he has missed over the past few years.

Can Ben Simmons Ever Return To All-Star Form?

It may seem impossible for Simmons to find his peak again, but he’s still got time to recover at just 27 years old.

If he’s truly healthy and ready to play from day one, there is a chance he could regain his confidence and become a difference-maker once again. No doubt that would be a dream come true for the Nets.

But until that actually happens, there are always going to be doubts about what Simmons can do and how much left he has in the tank.
