The Dallas Mavericks pulled off a much-needed win by beating the Philadelphia 76ers 126-133 in a high-scoring game.

Luka Doncic had 42 points with 12 assists, while Kyrie Irving had 40 points as well. The pair became the first Mavericks’ teammates to score 40 in the same game, prompting fans to hail them as the best backcourt in the NBA.

A fan brought up the last time Kyrie combined for 82 with a teammate, “Almost literally.”

StatMuse pointed out that the duo easily outscored all their other teammates on the night, “Mavs scoring tonight: 82 — Kyrie and Luka, 51 — Everyone else.”

A fan mocked Charles Barkley for saying this duo won’t work, “Charles Barkley before the game on NBA on TNT: ‘This duo will never work…’ Luka and Kyrie: Proceeds to drop 82 points and lead the Mavericks to a victory against a top 5 team in the NBA.”

A Mavs fan was happy to see the narrative of Luka and Kyrie not being able to share the ball be put to rest, “Double 40 balls for Luka and Kyrie after all the noise about them not being able to play together. I will sleep well tonight.”

The classic highlight reel of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal was shared as well, likening Kyrie and Luka to them, “Kyrie Irving and Luka Donic Tonight.”

One Mavs fan was shocked to see Kyrie and Luka combine for 55 points a minute into the third quarter, “Kyrie and Luka playing off of each other and combining for 55 points only 1 minute and 42 seconds into the 3rd quarter.”

Another Mavs fan joked about how Kyrie and Luka ‘cooked’ the 76ers, “What Luka & Kyrie are cooking tonight.”

The body language from the stars was positive, and a Mavs fan thinks this win may change the ton of their season, “I don’t think I saw Luka complain a lot this game, and it was refreshing. He was really locked in tonight, and Kyrie was aggressive from tip-off. Maxi the defensive anchor?”

The game was incredibly stressful for the Mavs, who had a 25-point lead at a point in the game. They entered the fourth quarter with a 19-point lead that disappeared in just 3 minutes after the 76ers went on a 15-0 run. Doncic and Irving managed to stop the bleeding with their magnetic scoring ability to steal the win from Joel Embiid and James Harden.

Can The Mavericks Secure A Top-6 Seed?

This win helped the Dallas Mavericks stabilize their falling record after they lost 5 of their last 6 games, including a blown 27-point lead against the Lakers and an embarrassing home loss to the Pacers. They are now 33-31, patiently awaiting the result of the Clippers vs. Warriors matchup to see which seed they end their night on.

For the Mavs to be a top-6 team in the West, they need to hope that either the Warriors, the Clippers, or the Suns fall out of the 4-6 positions they hold on the table. This will be a massive challenge for Dallas, who can’t seem to defend any of their opponents.

Irving and Doncic proved that they can outscore anybody, and it’ll be fun to see them test this philosophy for the rest of the season.
