NBA Insider Goes Off On Boston Celtics After Game 3 Loss: “The Celtics Are A Mentally Weak Team With A Clueless Head Coach”

The Boston Celtics are likely heading home in the Eastern Conference Finals after falling back 3-0 to the eight-seeded Miami Heat.

The collapse of Boston has been a stunning revelation after many pegged them as title favorites from the start of the season. Kevin O’Connor has held the Celtics to the fire on Twitter, calling them a mentally weak team and calling Joe Mazzulla clueless.

“What an embarrassment. The Celtics are a mentally weak team with a clueless head coach. Big changes should come this summer.”

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown combined for 26 points on the night while undrafted Heat guard Gabe Vincent went off for 29 alone in the Game 3 win. The stars of the Celtics didn’t look locked in at any point and that accountability has to fall on their players and veterans, but a lot of it falls on Joe Mazzulla’s inability to adjust and keep his team motivated.

Are The Celtics Shaking Up Their Core?

Boston has had multiple cracks at the ring with this team and unless they make a historic 3-0 comeback, Brad Stevens will be forced to break up the nucleus of this roster. Jaylen Brown will be the biggest question mark, as his dissatisfaction with the team is becoming evident and he hasn’t been able to give the production we know he is capable of this series. He is averaging 16.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in this series.

People will call for Joe Mazzulla to be sacked, but it may be a short-sighted move. He is extremely young and has a lot of room for growth. If Boston wants to go win-now and possibly look at Nick Nurse, it may be the right move right now. But Mazzulla has years ahead of him and will likely be retained for another shot with the roster, especially after all the head coach turnover Boston has had in the last three seasons.
