- Christian Wood has been targeted by multiple teams
- The Heat, Lakers, and Bulls are potential landing spots
- The Heat and Wood have interest, but it depends on how the Lillard trade pans out
There are three teams in the hunt to land Christian Wood, and one of them is the Miami Heat. And if the latest reports are to go by, the big man is interested in joining the franchise as well.
But there is a caveat, according to The Athletic’s Jovan Buha. In his latest regarding the Los Angeles Lakers roster and offseason moves, the insider shed light on Wood and the possibility of Miami beating LA to signing the center.
“Christian Wood, from my understanding, is interested in a potential role in Miami—depending on what players are involved in that [Dame] trade. If they add Nurkić I think that frontcourt is set. If they don’t & get rid of Jović, can Wood come in & outplay Love & Bryant.”

It appears that the fans and other NBA franchises aren’t the only ones waiting to see what happens with the Lillard-Heat-Blazers situation. Wood reportedly has his sights set on the team construction if the trade inevitably comes true.
Buha also added another detail that did the rounds earlier as well. The Chicago Bulls are looked at as one of the teams interested in adding Wood to their ranks, now that they have the $10.2 million Disabled Player Exception the franchise received for injured point guard Lonzo Ball.
“There’s also Chicago kind of looming. They have that injury exception because of the Lonzo situation… I think that would have likely already happened if they were going to sign him, but you never know…”
Now, as Wood evaluates his options, it remains to be seen if the Lakers can acquire his services.
The Los Angeles Lakers Believe They Can Bring The Best Out Of Christian Wood
Despite averaging over 16 points per game last season, Christian Wood is still looking for a team to play for ahead of the 2023-24 season.
That said, the Lakers are confident that they could bring out the best of Wood if they manage to sign him in this summer.
“The big question would be whether the Lakers’ structure — headlined by coach Darvin Ham and James — could keep Wood focused on winning while eliminating some of his bad habits and overcoming some deficiencies,” wrote LA Times analyst Dan Woike.
“While he’s already played for seven teams, there’s at least some internal optimism that the Lakers could make it work as stop No. 8.”
The Lakers front office are actively on the lookout for a big man to serve as backup for Anthony Davis, and should that player indeed be Wood, then the already well-constructed squad just gets a lot beefier and deep, making it clear that the Lakers are winners of the summer trades.
