The Los Angeles Lakers’ skirmish against the Philadelphia 76ers was billed as the clash of the centers, with the spotlight solely on Anthony Davis and Joel Embiid.

The result went Philadelphia’s way eventually after the two teams battled it out in overtime. Despite Davis’ heroics in the fourth quarter, the Lakers were low on juice and ended up falling short as the 76ers notched up a 122-132 win.

Soon after the clash, Twitter was filled with comparisons between the big men, and safe to say the responses were divided. Davis ended his night with 31 points and 12 rebounds, and Embiid had 38 points, 12 boards, and 5 assists.

While some praised Embiid for his solid effort at both ends of the floor, the Lakers center received bouquets and brickbats in equal measure as well.

• 11/12 FT’s 😔
• +18

Almost led the comeback of the year. If he’s truly the Lakers franchise player, they owe it to him (& Bron) to trade the picks pic.twitter.com/lSpZjW6UDo

Let’s get to a positive record then we can talk about how AD is in the top three convo for mvp. Maybe even top 2

While Anthony Davis was the one who would get off to blazing starts for the Lakers in recent times, it was Embiid who did it for the Sixers, and he had 20 points just in the first quarter showcasing his dominance.

Anthony Davis And Joel Embiid Have Been Vital Cogs For The Lakers And The 76ers

Irrespective of the result, both Davis and Embiid have been crucial for their sides. At the time of writing, both players have already been doing the rounds in MVP conversations.

Davis has been on a tear for Los Angeles, averaging 27.5 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. His resurgence helped the Lakers string up some wins after their torrid start to the season. On the other hand, Embiid has been the team’s focal point with 32.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 4.9 assists.

The win doesn’t necessarily put Philadelphia in the top five but does put them just over the .500 record — the number the Lakers are hoping to hit before the end of the year.

They have 11 games to do it even as the front office looks to pull the trigger during the trade and add suitable talent around Davis and LeBron James. It remains to be seen if both bigs can carry their form all the way while managing to stay healthy at the same time. The Lakers play the Detroit Pistons next, while the Sixers take on the Charlotte Hornets.
