When the 2021-22 NBA season commenced, many had already written off the Philadelphia 76ers from the list of contenders to win the championship. It was the aftermath of the drama that took place between Ben Simmons and the organization.
So the burden fell on the shoulders of none other than their All-Star center Joel Embiid. While some thought it might be too much for him, Embiid has silenced his doubters with insane performances throughout the season.
He is one of the frontrunners to win the regular season MVP and now the 76ers have paired him up with none other than former MVP James Harden. It is no news that Harden wasn't happy with his situation with the Brooklyn Nets and it was only a matter of time before he joined another team.
Well, The Beard has arrived in Philly and it seems like he has had an instant impact on players around him. Recently, fans saw Joel Embiid's hilarious attempt to try Harden's signature step back, but it was given a travel call.
Although in the 76ers' close victory against the Bucks, Embiid did it correctly. NBA reporters definitely wanted to know the thought process behind Embiid's efforts to add that skill to his arsenal. The 27-year-old said:
"That’s me, I like to learn new things and do them. ... Obviously having him kind of reminded me I have more stuff in my game. ... Whatever helps me get some separation to get the shot off, I’m going to use it all."
Adding new skills to the arsenal is certainly a great way to ensure success in the NBA for a long period of time. Joel Embiid seems aware of it and that's why he tried the Harden step back.
While Embiid is still trying to nail it down perfectly, having Harden around him will prove to be of help to him. Fans will be excited to see if the two players will further exchange moves as they spend the rest of the season together.
