On the cusp of his 20th NBA season, Lakers superstar LeBron James continues to juggle great expectations. Even after a brutal campaign last season, fans and experts are going to be watching the Lakers closely, ready to clown them if they lose again.

In the meantime, LeBron will continue to fight for his team as one of the best players in the world. After nearly two decades of excellence, James certainly has what it takes to lift the Lakers out of their slump, and Bron seems more determined than ever to pour in a monster season.

In fact, if he plays well enough, it could also be the year that James surpasses Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the NBA’s All-Time scoring list.

LeBron James Is Humbled By The Possibility Of Breaking The NBA’s Scoring Record This Season

During L.A.’s media day on Monday, the 4x champion spoke honestly about the milestone and what it would mean for his career if he was able to pull it off.

“To know that I’m on the verge of breaking probably the most sought-after record in the NBA, things that people say would probably never be done, I think it’s just super humbling for myself. I think it’s super cool,” said James (h/t ClutchPoints). “Obviously Kareem has had his differences with some of my views, but at the end of the day, to be able to be recognized in the same breath as a guy who wore the same uniform… I think is just super, super dope for myself to even be in that conversation.”

Right now, Kareem sits at the very top of the NBA’s all-time scoring list with a total of 38,387 points scored. LeBron currently sits one spot behind him with a mark of 37,062 points. If LeBron has one of his typical seasons, he could take Kareem’s place by the trade deadline.

Either way, Bron’s focus will not be on personal milestones, anyway. Instead, he’ll be worried about trying to maximize his teammates and bring some success to a struggling Lakers squad.

So while holding the All-Time scoring title will bode well for LeBron’s legacy, winning another championship would do even more, and he hasn’t lost sight of that.

Over the next few weeks and months, it will be interesting to see how everything plays out, and how long it takes LeBron to eclipse Kareem at the top.
