The NBA is in one of the brightest spots it has been in ages. There is talent all over the league with the playoff race looking like a blood bath this season. The Brooklyn Nets are in the thick of it in the Eastern Conference, with a recent strong run of form overturning a poor start to set the Nets with a 16-12 record, going 8-2 in their last 10.

This success has led to Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving being hailed by many as the best duo in the NBA. However, some duos around the league have proven they might be ahead of KD and Kyrie in the conversation.

NBA opinions fluctuate quite often. We saw Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland hailed as the best backcourt in the NBA, while Ja Morant and Desmond Bane were being called the same. Anthony Davis and LeBron James were being called the best duo last night after the Lakers’ win over Detroit, so there will never be a consensus everyone agrees with.

Are Superstar Duos The Future Of The NBA?

The NBA has moved away from the Big 3 model that we saw dominate after the Boston Celtics assembled their superstar lineup in 2008. The 2019 Toronto Raptors broke the mold with a solid team built around one superstar, and we have seen one ‘Big 3’ win a title since, the 2021 Milwaukee Bucks.

Most teams around the league have built around a superstar duo, and it has proven to be a better way in a league that is increasingly prioritizing depth over top-end talent. Teams that are top-heavy have struggled in recent seasons, so a deep core around 2 stars of the offense seems to be the way to go nowadays.
