Russell Westbrook has not had much reason to celebrate in recent times; he has been dealing with endless speculation about his future and continued criticism from the likes of Skip Bayless. Russ called Bayless out for using the ‘Westbrick’ nickname in recent times but true to form. This just led to Bayless telling him to come on his show and debate him.

However, Tuesday seems to find Russ in an excellent mood, with Adrian Wojnarowski reporting that Westbrook will pick up his player option worth $47.1 million for the 2022-23 season. And so Westbrook’s latest post on Twitter is a lot more positive than some of the ones that have come before.

Westbrook shared a video of him singing the words to ‘Break My Soul’ by Beyonce in his car while smiling and repeating the chorus, which says, “You won’t break my soul”.

Westbrook has been an MVP, a perennial All-Star, and is one of the greatest NBA players of the past decade. Even though he had a rough season, there is no reason to believe that Russ can’t come back next season and make a huge splash and contribute to winning for the Lakers if all their players are healthy.

There is still no way to know for sure if he will be given that opportunity. The number of reports that have mentioned him in potential trade deals for the Lakers means they are likely considering moving him for the right return. However, with his contract now definitely being too high for most teams to consider acquiring him, it does look a little less likely.

A motivated Westbrook could be a valuable piece to have, and he will have a chip on his shoulder after all the slander he has received this season. With this latest development, it becomes another interesting plotline to follow as the excitement to see what next season brings has already begun within the NBA fanbase.
