Countless NBA fans have envisioned Steph Curry and LeBron James on the same team. As amazing players with loads of history facing off against each other, the two of them donning the same jersey is always exciting to imagine.

As LeBron James revealed on “The Shop,” even he has a desire to make it happen.

“In today’s game, Steph Curry. Steph Curry’s the one that I want to play with, for sure… I love everything about that guy. When he gets out of his car, you better guard him right from the moment he pulls up to the arena.”

Unfortunately for James, Steph doesn’t quite feel the same way. When he found out what James said, he was all-too-quick to shoot down the notion.

“Well, he [LeBron] got his wish. He’s picked me the last 2 All-Star Games. I don’t know if that suffices, but I’m good right now,” said Curry. “I’m good right now. I mean, whenever you get the interest or curiosity of what it would be like to play with, from an MVP caliber dude like he is, and one of the greatest of All-Time, cool. Like, that’s amazing. We all can live in that fantasy world.”

This week, Curry came back to clarify those comments in a chat with Draymond Green. During an in-depth chat about the topic, he went into more detail about his thoughts on LeBron and told the story of a gift he got from him back in college.

“It’s surreal because I will never be so far removed from the time. I was in Detroit, playing in the Sweet 16 game and this dude was maybe in his fourth or fifth year in the league and he’s coming to my game like supporting and cheering and doing all that stuff, even at the place he was at in his career. The future superstar and Hall-of-Famer, potentially greatest of All-Time. The fact that we’re 13 years removed and he’s still saying that is crazy. He gave me a jersey when I was in college at Davidson, I still have it on the wall at my parents house back in Charlotte. He wrote it ‘to the King of Basketball in North Carolina’ and signed it and all that. Like, I will never be too far removed from where I came from in terms of this journey. So that’s dope and that’s the surreal part.

The other quick part is if you take a fantasy draft and what Bron can do and the way that I can shoot the ball like obviously there’s a curiosity there like ‘what would that look like.’ But also there’s a realism of like, which is why I said I’m good right now, that you can never let your mind go from what you know is your situation and what is your moment, your time and who I’ve been rocking with from Day 1. So, that’s my best answer at it cause it’s fantasy it’s wild but there’s a respect and appreciation, the surrealness cause of where I came from and how we first interacted back when I was in college. But if this is 2K, it’d be pretty lethal.”

LeBron and Steph were born in the same hospital. When Steph was still in college at Davidson, James showed up to his games and even gave him a signed jersey. Years later, they’d be competing against each other in the Finals as two of the NBA’s top players.

From the very beginning, their fates were intertwined and it’s amazing to see how it has all progressed over the years.

While we will likely never see them on the same team (not counting the All-Star game), it doesn’t take away from the connection and respect between them.
