Stephen A. Smith Goes On Angry Rant Over Donovan Mitchell And The New York Knicks

Stephen A. Smith goes on angry Knicks rant after Donovan Mitchell drops 71 points.

In the aftermath of a 71-point masterpiece, young superstar Donovan Mitchell has many teams in the NBA coveting what he brings to the table.

In Utah, he grew into a star as he proved to be one of the league’s best scorers. And in Cleveland, he has elevated his game even further to the point where he’s become a legitimate MVP candidate.

The Knicks had the chance to add Mitchell to their roster multiple times already, including during the 2017 Draft and this past summer, when the Knicks were reported to be in intense trade talks for the young sharpshooter.

Amid what appears to be another season of mediocrity for the Knicks, notorious New York superfan Stephen A. Smith let loose on his team and lamented the Knicks not picking up Donovan when they had the chance.

“Donovan Mitchell, who wanted to be in New York, who’s from New York, who expected to be wearing a New York Knicks uniform, is dropping 71,” Smith said. “… I’m just so sick of it. They (the Knicks) make me sick.”

The Knicks aren’t known for making the best decisions, but they really missed an opportunity here with Donovan. Had he joined Julius Randle and R.J. Barrett in New York, they’d probably be a lot better than they are now.

Knicks Monitoring Several Trade Targets Ahead Of February Deadline

Without Mitchell, the Knicks just don’t have enough and they’ll have to look elsewhere to cover some of their flaws. Fortunately, they don’t have to look very far to find a realistic candidate.

“They tried to get Donovan Mitchell,” said NBA insider Michael Scotto. “They’ve got their eyes on Zach LaVine. They’re monitoring him, they’re looking for the star that’s going to become available, which I think is, of course, they’re going to do that. But at the same time, from a negotiating standpoint, any team that’s got a star that is willing to put them on the market and talk to the Knicks is going to try to squeeze them like an orange in Tropicana orange juice, you’re going to get it all out with no pump. That’s what you’re going to want and the Rudy Gobert trade screwed up everything for everybody.”

This trade season, we can expect the Knicks to be more than active. In fact, depending on how these next few weeks go, we could see a big shakeup in New York.

For now, fans are left to wonder what could’ve been had they made better decisions with their roster.
