Stephon Marbury continues to slam LeBron James. During a recent appearance on the ‘New York Minute’ show, Marbury slammed the choice to have LeBron James be named Olympics MVP over Stephen Curry, before explaining that he doesn’t hate LeBron but just thinks Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are better, even citing LeBron’s poor free-throw shooting.

“Stephen Curry should’ve gotten the MVP. Period… They think I’m a LeBron James hater. I love LeBron James as a basketball player. They get mad because I don’t agree that he’s a better player than Michael Jordan. I played against all three of them. I’ve never seen Jordan and Kobe shoot an airball at the free-throw line. Have you?…”

Marbury has spoken about Stephen Curry deserving the Olympic MVP over LeBron James several times, including this past summer. He even claimed that LeBron didn’t earn his Olympic MVP title during the course of the tournament.

Marbury has also spoken about LeBron James’ merit in the GOAT debate. He has consistently claimed that James is not close to Michael Jordan. In fact, he has added that LeBron must surpass Kobe Bryant before he can even be compared to Michael Jordan fairly.

In a recent interview just last week, Marbury doubled down on this position and claimed that both Kobe and Jordan were leagues ahead of LeBron James.

While Marbury continues to claim that he doesn’t hate LeBron James, it is strange to see him continue to speak about LeBron in a negative light during interviews. While one can claim that Marbury is being asked these questions, he has full agency during these interviews and can choose to not repeat the same points again and again.

NBA Media Continues To Rehash GOAT Debate

The GOAT debate has always been a controversial subject among NBA fans. No matter how intense a fandom a person holds of basketball, the issue is so polarizing that everyone has an opinion on the matter. And there is one entity that has consistently benefitted from this debate.

NBA media regularly brings up this discussion whenever they can. It is the easiest way to farm engagement and get people to talk and circulate their comments. And this is becoming a common occurrence now. Many feel that it began during the pandemic, with the release of ‘The Last Dance’ docuseries, and Michael Jordan’s name being in the limelight once again.

Charles Barkley recently called out members of the media for continuing to pedal the GOAT debate between Michael Jordan and LeBron James, noting that it was nothing more than lazy journalism.

Regardless of who you feel is the greatest of all time, there is no denying that both LeBron James and Michael Jordan are once-ever athletes who changed the game in a way that very few athletes will ever be able to do in their careers.

Why focus on tearing both of them down, when we should be celebrating them every chance we get?
