A couple of years ago, it looked like Pat Riley and the Miami Heat had landed yet another huge steal in the NBA Draft.
Tyler Herro showed glimpses of greatness and looked poised to break out. He was incredibly clutch in the bubble and played with determination to prove that he was better than scouts said.
Notably, injuries and inconsistency prevented him from taking a step forward after his impressive rookie year. Even so, his confidence remains intact, as he even said that he’s in the same conversation as other young stars such as Luka Doncic, Trae Young, and Ja Morant:
“I feel like I’m in the same conversation as those guys, the young guys coming up in the league who can be All-Stars, superstars one day,” Herro said, as quoted by Heat Nation. “Luka [Doncic], Trae [Young], Ja [Morant], those guys like that. I feel like my name should be in that category, too.”
People are opinionated when it comes to Tyler Herro’s future and how he projects, so I asked him where he sees himself in the mix
He told me he should be grouped with the likes of Luka Doncic, Trae Young, and Ja Morant as possible future stars

Some people will think that’s far-fetched but in reality, it’s too early to count him out or say he’s not as good as them. They have different roles and usage rates, so maybe time will tell.
Herro recently admitted that he didn’t have fun at all last season, mostly because of all the narratives around him:
“Last year, it was all mental,” Herro said. “I didn’t enjoy coming into work every day.
For me, one of the biggest things was hearing people say that I partied too much, that I’m not in the gym, that I don’t love the gym. If you knew me, you’d know I try to be the hardest-working dude out here. So, I think you’ll see that this year.
I just feel good. I feel like I have a reason now.”
Now, Herro says that he’s looking forward to “waking up those who are still sleeping on him,” which will be easier said than done now that the Miami Heat will be obliged to be one of the top-notch teams in the East.
Herro’s scoring abilities are clearly there and he’s still pretty young. Maybe, one day down the line we’ll look back at that statement and laugh, but maybe we’ll say he’s right.
