NBA Rumors: Giannis Antetokounmpo Could Be The No. 1 Offseason Target For The Golden State Warriors

2 Min Read

Just one summer following the departure of Kevin Durant, the Golden State Warriors are hoping to reel in another big fish in the offseason. His name? Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks.

In a recent Zoom conversation with NBC Sports Bay Area, Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer revealed that The Greek Freak is the “number one” 2020 offseason target for the Dubs.

“That’s the No. 1 target of course,” O’Connor said, referring to Antetokounmpo. “People say, ‘How would you get Giannis?’ Well, you have multiple salaries — (Andrew) Wiggins or Draymond (Green) — that you could move. You could move your first (round draft pick) this year and that very appealing Minnesota (first-round) pick next year. But that’s — of course — a pipe dream. But a dream nonetheless and it’s worth pursuing.”

The big question surrounding Giannis is his upcoming free agency. The Bucks’ failure to win a title has left the door open for a possible departure in 2021, which makes the idea of a trade this summer much more plausible.

Obviously, the acquisition of Antetokoumnmpo would be huge for the Warriors. The 25-year-old superstar was on the verge of winning his second straight MVP this season, with season averages of 29.6 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game on 54% shooting.

Alongside Steph and Klay, that inside-out tandem would be deadly. But we’ll see how the situation develops in the weeks and months to come.
