It’s been weeks since Kevin Durant demanded a trade from the Brooklyn Nets. After a string of disappointing results and an embarrassing first-round loss with the team, it is understandable why the 2-time Finals MVP wants out of Brooklyn.
Like every want away star, KD has also been linked to multiple teams ever since his trade request became public. Be it a move to the Toronto Raptors, Phoenix Suns, or the Miami Heat, multiple suitors have emerged for the Nets superstar. Among the potential suitors, there is his former team and recently crowned champions, the Golden State Warriors.
Given that KD wants a trade to a championship-caliber team, it is understandable that the Warriors are also a name in the potential suitors list. One of the potential trade packages that have been prevalent for the Durant trade is a package centered around Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole, along with multiple picks.
Although Wiggins and Poole aren’t anywhere near the level of superstardom of Durant, both the players have proven that they are dependable players in the postseason and can step in both offensively and defensively. While a trade package containing the two might entice many, it seems like the Nets aren’t as high on the idea. In a recent appearance in his podcast The Lowe Post, ESPN’s Zach Lowe claimed the Nets are not that interested in the probable trade the Warriors might put up.
“The intel I have is that the Nets are not super high on Wiggins or Poole as sort of centerpiece players. Then you get to the other guys who are relatively unproven in the NBA. So I don’t know if there ever really was a deal there that the Nets would have done. Obviously, you have to explore it if you’re the Warriors.”
While it is understandable why the Nets might not fancy a trade package around Wiggins or Poole, the Warriors might not have any other player to give up for a Durant trade. Although their fabled trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green are aging, they still are the championship core for this team. Given that the Nets might not fancy Wiggins or Poole, KD’s potential move to the Warriors seems rather unlikely.
