Skip Bayless has long been the biggest critic of LeBron James, almost throughout his entire career. Bayless has praised James at times, there are certain aspects of his game that Skip has appreciated before. However, this comes with an almost obsessive and continuous commentary trying to discredit LeBron and everything he has achieved in the NBA.

A large reason for this is people putting James in the GOAT conversation, with Bayless being one of the most vocal fans of Michael Jordan. His need to prop up MJ’s legacy often sees him making fun of LeBron for the few shortcomings he has. And one of the perennial points he keeps bringing up is James’ poor percentages from three-point range and his poor free-throw shooting

He addressed his constant criticism of LeBron in a recent episode of his podcast, The Skip Bayless Show, bringing up both those points once again to suggest that it’s not him who tears down James.

“I’m not trying to tear him down because he does that himself. He tears himself down by missing all those threes and missing all those FTs, but just this past regular season, LeBron finished 93rd in the NBA in three-point shooting, while taking the 15th most three-point shots. That math doesn’t work for me.”

While it’s interesting that Bayless finally addressed the people claiming he has an agenda, it seems he is sticking to his guns in terms of cherry-picking stats to criticize the greatest player of this era. Most fans consider Jordan to be the GOAT, but if Bayless’ criteria are anything to go by, there are multiple ways to discredit his legacy as well.

At the end of the day, the truth of the matter is that James is still the biggest star in the NBA, even though he is entering his 20th season. The spotlight will always shine brightest on him while he’s still playing basketball, and it’s likely that Bayless will continue to criticize him at every opportunity.
