Former NBA MVP James Harden is apparently considering the possibility of joining the Brooklyn Nets to team up with his ex-teammate Kevin Durant and star point guard Kyrie Irving.
In the event Brooklyn pulls off such a deal, one can only imagine how powerful the club would be, especially with three of the best scorers in the game.
The move might sound like a no-brainer for the New York club, but not everyone on the team may be keen on the idea. According to SNY’s Ian Begley, support for a potential Harden deal was not unanimous.
“One possible destination Harden could land is in Brooklyn with the Nets,” wrote Begley. “But according to SNY sources, the support for such a trade wasn’t universal. People around Harden contacted some Nets players to discuss the possibility of the perennial All-Star joining the team, per SNY sources. Some were supportive, but not all players contacted about a potential Harden-to-Brooklyn deal were in favor of it, sources said.”
For whatever reason, people within the organization aren’t sold on Harden making the team better.
Despite being an 8x All-Star, 3x Scoring Champ, and 7x All-NBA player, James is one of the most controversial players in the game. His offensive strategies (which include a lot of isolation basketball) often have him dribbling the ball for entire possessions.
It’s also no secret that Harden leaves much to be desired on the defensive end.
Whatever the reason, it seems not everyone is confident the Rockets star is a winning basketball player. For the Nets, who put everything on the line for KD and Kyrie, they can’t afford to make a mistake that might hinder their chemistry.
Needless to say, they’ve got a lot to think about in the days to come.
