NBA Rumors: Lakers Interested In Trading For Collin Sexton

2 Min Read

In Los Angeles, the Lakers are going to do whatever it takes to improve the state of their roster for next season. While their options are somewhat limited, there is one name that the Purple and Gold have their eyes on: 6’1″ Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Collin Sexton.

In a recent article, league insider Sam Amico gave the latest update on Sexton’s future:

“Things could get a little tricky between Collin Sexton and the Cavs. That much, we can assume. It’s almost always the case when money is involved. And even if they don’t, guys like me will likely hear they’re tricky, that there is some drama. And guys like me will write it.”

“Anyway, there are so many things to consider here,” Sam Amico of Hoops Wire reported. “[Darius] Garland and Sexton share an agent. Garland became the face of the Cavs. The Cavs traded for Caris LeVert, who plays Sexton’s position. And Sexton is drawing plenty of interest — with a few league sources telling me even LeBron James‘ Lakers are interested.”

Sexton, 23, has emerged as a borderline star for the Cavs. During the 2020-21 campaign, he averaged 24.3 points, 4.4 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game on 47% shooting.

This season, Sexton only played 11 games, and Cleveland lost their place in the postseason after suffering various injuries.

On the Lakers, Sexton could be the piece that turns the entire situation around. As a young and well-rounded playmaker and scorer, he’d be a perfect fit alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The only question for the Lakers would be what to do with Westbrook.

Regardless of what happens, it’s clear that the Lakers have big plans this summer, and fans should expect them to be back in the realm of title contention next season.
