Los Angeles Lakers are still mentioned in trade rumors around the NBA, even though now their tradeable pieces are different. The Purple and Gold know they should make a move to bring the right player to take their game to the next level.
Russell Westbrook’s good performances during the first part of the season have reportedly granted him an extended stay on the team, as the Lakers don’t seem to be keen to trade the former NBA MVP. Now, the focus appears to be on Kendrick Nunn and Patrick Beverley, two players who have struggled to make an impact on the team.
Still, some reports suggest that Russ could be exchanged soon if the Lakers find the right package. It’s not like they will move Russ for the sake of it; they know that Westbrook is playing at a great level, and rivals have noticed that.
Lakers Could Create A Lethal Big 3 With Bradley Beal
In recent days, the Lakers were linked with a move for DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic, which would have involved Westbrook going to Chicago, but that won’t be happening anytime soon. Moreover, the 17-time NBA champions have also been linked with Zach LaVine, but that looks even more difficult now.
Meantime, Westbrook’s name is been thrown around in rumors, but this time, he’s involved in blockbuster deals. For instance, ESPN’s Zach Lowe revealed that, talking with executives around the league, some think the Lakers have a chance to land Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards. Others, however, aren’t that convinced.
“I asked through the lens of like, ‘Is Russ and the two unprotected picks, is that fair value for Bradley Beal?’” he said, via Lakers Daily. “And if you asked 25 people around the league, you would get everything from…you’d get some people saying, ‘Oh my god no, Bradley Beal is a top 25 player, multiple time all-NBA player. That’s not even close to requisite value for Bradley Beal.’ And then you’d get another group of people who’d be like, ‘Honestly, anything the Wizards can get to get off of that contract, they should probably do it.’”
This could be a huge move for the Lakers, but they also would be getting another hefty contract with Beal. Russ’ is already a big one, but the point guard is thriving regardless. Perhaps Beal is the piece they need to compete for the championship, and it doesn’t bother the Lakers that much. Yet, it remains to be seen if the Wizards show any desire to trade Beal away and which teams will try to get him.
