Forward Zion Williamson is widely considered the face of the New Orleans Pelicans, and there’s no doubt that he is a generational talent. He is clearly the sort of player that can be the No. 1 option on a championship team.
However, availability issues have clearly plagued the young star thus far. He only averages 28.5 games a season, and some recent reports have suggested that the Pelicans are willing to trade him. It seems as though Zion Williamson already has a destination in mind, with it being reported that he wants a move to the New York Knicks.
“Sources: Zion Williamson and his camp reportedly prefer a change of scenery, specifically in New York. Pelicans will field trade calls through the NBA Draft, Thursday, June 22.”

It will be interesting to see whether the New Orleans Pelicans do end up trading Zion Williamson. Usually, teams don’t give up on a player of his caliber this early, but his availability issues are clearly something that has held the Pelicans back from being a competitive team in the Western Conference.
This season, Zion Williamson only played 29 games but averaged 26.0 PPG, 7.0 RPG, and 4.6 APG in that timespan for the New Orleans Pelicans. This is a great production, but unfortunately, 29 games played from one’s superstar is tough to withstand for any team.
The Pelicans Would Rather Keep Brandon Ingram Than Zion Williamson In A Scoot Henderson Trade
There have been previous reports about the Pelicans being frustrated with Zion Williamson. In fact, a recent report revealed that they would prefer to move Zion Williamson rather than All-Star Brandon Ingram in a trade for Scoot Henderson.
“I heard this week from one well-placed observer who is convinced that the Pelicans would indeed consider dealing Williamson away if it meant they could draft Henderson, pointing to a rising level of exasperation within the organization regarding Williamson’s ongoing availability issues and overall approach. My read, at this juncture, is that the Pelicans are less inclined to consider trading Brandon Ingram in the same scenario.”
It will be interesting to see if the New Orleans Pelicans do in fact trade Zion Williamson. It is clear that they’re at least considering the option, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
