Matt Barnes recently addressed Patrick Dumont’s comments about Luka Doncic on All The Smoke. Barnes noted that Dumont was being disrespectful towards Luka Doncic, while also suggesting that Dumont was in over his head in his role as the governor of the team. He advised him to be a little more humble, as his biggest achievement is being married to the family that bought the team.

“I had a hard time with him trying to kick Luka on the way out, disrespecting him every step of the way. This is a guy who, from everything we researched, has no history in sports and particularly no history in basketball. This guy married into money and was gifted this position.”

“Mr. Dumont, take a step back. Take a seat. You know nothing about hard work or what it takes to be great. You married into money. Sit with this trade that you made. Hopefully, Anthony Davis gets healthy, and I wish the Dallas Mavericks the best moving forward. But shut the f**k up, man. We all know how good Luka is. We don’t give a f**k what you have to say. Just sit back and be an owner.”

Barnes is far from the only one to criticize Dumont’s recent comments. A former Mavericks executive did the same as well, calling out Dumont for not being part of the franchise during the years they built the team around Luka Doncic. But it isn’t just basketball personalities that have come out and slammed Dumont in recent weeks.

He was booed vigorously by Mavericks fans at the American Airlines Center recently. However, the owner wasn’t able to figure out why exactly he was facing a lot of hostility from the crowd.

Dumont started his career in business as an investment banker. In 2009, he married Sivan Ochshorn, the daughter of Miriam Adelson, who owns the Las Vegas Sands Corporation. After getting married, he joined the company, working his way up the ranks to be named the Chief Financial Officer in 2016.

In 2021, Dumont was named the COO of the company. He became a majority owner of the Dallas Mavericks with Miriam Adelson and Sivan Ochshorn last year. Since then, he has taken a governor role with the franchise.

The family is worth $32.8 billion, making them one of the richest families, not just in the United States, but across the world. He has earned a massive privilege due to his affiliation with the family. That isn’t to say that he hasn’t worked hard to get to where he is, but he was afforded privileges that many others are not.

So for him to criticize the work ethic of Luka Doncic, especially considering that a large part of his success is due to his familial ties, is quite hypocritical. Hard work is important for success in any part of life. But circumstances also play a great role in finding success.
