NBA family man LaVar Ball made headlines on Wednesday after the recent status of his medical condition was revealed. In viral photos, Ball is seen in good spirits after a serious health complication resulted in the amputation of his right foot.
“We’re told the Ball family patriarch underwent a recent procedure to have his right foot removed,” reported TMZ. “Despite it all, he is in great spirits and doing well.”

No details were provided on what caused the amputation but he’s described as being in good spirits despite the unfortunate turn of events.
Ball, co-founder of Big Baller Brand, is the father of three young men: Lonzo, LiAngelo, and LaMelo. When his eldest son came into the league, LaVar became famous for his unwavering support which often came in the form of bold and often over-confident comments.
Of course, Ball is also the guy who tried to outshine Nike and other big companies with his Big Baller sneaker brand. Not only did it fail to gain any traction, but his own sons abandoned the project and cut ties with almost everyone involved.
To say that Ball has been a controversial figure in the NBA wouldn’t be entirely untrue even if his theatrics have toned down in recent years. He’s been criticized before for his disrespectful takes and he was also on the hot seat for his involvement in the lawsuit involving Big Baller Brand.
Even so, all fans are rooting for LaVar’s good health and safety and they were relieved to see him smiling after the amputation. For as much heat as he gets, Ball and his family have a good story and they have each found success doing what they love.
“The fact that Lavar Ball is still smiling after having his foot amputated is wild,” wrote one fan in a viral post. “People love to hate him but he’s done nothing but care about his sons and bring positivity to everyone.”
We don’t know what LaVar’s recovery process looks like but he’ll have a strong support system in place to help him return to full strength. He will likely get a prosthetic at some point but it remains to be seen if he’ll ever be able to play basketball with his sons again.
As for his sons, they will keep honoring their dad in the best way they know how: with success on and off the court. This season, after years of trying to recover from his own injuries, Lonzo Ball is finally back in uniform and he’s slowly but surely working his way back into form with season averages of 7.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game on 36.2% shooting.
Meanwhile, LaMelo is the star of the show in Charlotte. While he struggles to stay on the court for the Hornets, he’s their best player and the best athlete of all the Ball brothers with career averages of 21.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game on 42.5% shooting. Expectations for him couldn’t be higher at the end of his fifth NBA season.
LiAngelo is not in the NBA but he’s made a name for himself in the music industry after the release of his latest single ‘Tweaker’ which was a massive hit.
It was LaVar who paved the way for the Ball brothers to become who they are today and we can see that in how he’s handled his latest medical crisis. Without panic or fear, LaVar has overcome this fight and he’s already adapting to his new way of life.
