Luka Doncic reminded everyone that leadership in the NBA is not limited to points, assists, highlight reels, or hitting clutch shots as he surprised his teammates and staff with an early Christmas gift. The Lakers‘ superstar spent a massive amount as he gifted 103 high-end electric bikes to every player, coach, and member of the basketball operations staff.

JJ Redick revealed the surprise after practice, calling it ‘a very nice gesture,’ and as Luka called it a Christmas gift. The players first joked that Luka got them a Bugatti, but they were equally surprised seeing the bikes. Luka was then seen taking a ride around the facility. Marcus Smart, Jaxson Hayes, Rui Hachimura, and the rest of the crew were all appreciative of Luka.
Luka reportedly spent well over $300,000, with some reports suggesting the Slovenian superstar spent nearly $340,000.

Players received the Pedal All Wheel Drive S, a premium e-bike built, retailing around $3,350. Staff members were gifted the lighter Pedal H T model, priced at roughly $2,250. Do the math across 103 bikes, and the scale of Doncic’s generosity becomes clear.
This is not a one-off moment for Luka. He did the same thing during his time in Dallas, as he gifted teammates and staff with electric bikes. In his Lakers tenure, he has gifted his teammates his new ‘Luka 4’ signature shoes. He even organized a Porsche driving experience earlier this season for a team-building exercise.
This kind of gesture matters in Los Angeles, where Luka is entering his first full season as a Laker and has taken the role of the franchise centerpiece for the foreseeable future. LeBron James, now 40, is still there, but the future of the Lakers now runs through Luka. And acts like this will help cement his status without a big press conference or a locker room speech.
On the court, Doncic has been just as loud. He is leading the NBA in scoring at 34.7 points per game, powering the Lakers to an 18-7 record, and putting together an MVP-level season. Off the court, he is doing the quieter work that builds trust and buy-in across an organization.
There is a reason teammates respond to players like this. It is not about the dollar amount, even when the dollar amount is massive. It is about awareness. Doncic understands that trainers, staffers, and front office employees matter. He understands that culture is built when everyone feels included.
The bikes will get used. People will ride them to the beach, around the city, and probably to the practice facility. But long after the batteries wear down, the message will stick. Luka Doncic is not just playing for the Lakers. He is investing in them.
