It has been nearly two weeks, but the reverberations from the massive trade between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks are still being felt. The Mavericks sent a package including Luka Doncic to land Anthony Davis, thus ending the pairing of Davis and LeBron James. It was a shocking trade that no one saw coming.

Anthony Davis spent five years with the Los Angeles Lakers after moving to the franchise in 2019. He earned four All-Star nominations during his time and won an NBA championship and the inaugural NBA Cup when he was with the team. That is a lot of success, something many big names haven’t been able to do during their time in L.A.

With that, there is an important question to ask: is Anthony Davis a Lakers legend? NBA fans recently discussed the potential of Anthony Davis getting his jersey retired by the Los Angeles Lakers in a recent post on Instagram. A lot of them pointed out that he has achieved everything that LeBron James has with the franchise. And if James has earned a jersey retirement with the franchise, so has Anthony Davis.

“I love AD but no D Fish did more. If he didn’t get traded and got another title, maybe.”

“I love AD but its not enough.”

“Nah cool couple of years but not enough!!!! Pelicans gotta retire his jersey.”

“312 games in a Lakers jersey and nearly 200 watched from the sidelines, absolutely not.”

“I put AD in the same category as Pau… AD spent most of his prime with us… Won a title… Hit an epic game-winner on Denver to propel us to the Finals… Olympic Gold Medalist.. multiple-time All-Star..and was a high-character guy for us… He’ll eventually get his jersey retired… But I think Fisher, Scott, Horry & AC should be up there as well…AD/LBJ can have their jerseys up there one day…”

“Besides his accolades and him being a top 75 player, he gave LA a bubble championship and L.A.’s first IST Cup, why not??”

“He’s not gonna get a statue but he definitely deserves his jersey retired.”

“I mean Pau got retired and played the same amount of years and 2 chips. Why can’t AD?”

“The Hall of Fame gets your jersey lifted to the rafters, amongst the Laker greats.”

“If LeBron gets his jersey retired in LA then AD should definitely cause without AD they don’t win the ring.”

“Tbh, if LeBron should get it, AD should. That chip would not have happened if it was just one of them.”

Davis played 312 games with the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 24.8 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and 2.2 blocks per game while shooting 53.2% from the field, 28.2% from beyond the arc, and 79.4% from the free-throw line.

With the Los Angeles Lakers, Anthony Davis achieved the following:

1X NBA Championship (2020)

1X NBA Cup (2023)

4X NBA All-Star (2020-2021, 2024-2025)

1X All-NBA First Team (2020)

1X All-NBA Second Team (2024)

2X All-Defensive First Team  (2020, 2024)

NBA 75th Anniversary Team (2022)

His accomplishments will not be forgotten by fans of the purple and gold, as he helped bring a championship after 10 years. Regardless of what anyone says about his time with the Purple and Gold, Davis will be remembered by the fans of the Los Angeles Lakers as a legend of the team.

After all the achievements and the unforgettable championship win in 2020, Anthony Davis surely deserves, that one day, the Lakers put his jersey up in the rafters.
