It’s not often that tempers flare during preseason but that happened after the game between the New York Knicks and the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday. Rick Brunson and Donte DiVincenzo got into a heated exchange and a user on X has now revealed what the two men were saying to each other.

Rick Brunson: “Donte, that was some sucker s***, man. That was some sucker s***.”

Donte DiVincenzo: “You were talking to me?”

Jalen Brunson: “Yo.”

Rick Brunson: “Imma let you live, brother.”

Donte DiVincenzo: “I was talking to Thibs… you wanna bring it out here for the camera.”

Jalen Brunson sure found himself in a difficult position there, with his father and good friend going at each other. Fortunately, things didn’t escalate afterward.

As for this exchange, you’d expect Rick Brunson to act more maturely. The 53-year-old was seemingly the only one on the Knicks to take serious issue with whatever DiVincenzo said during the game, so it clearly wasn’t anything too egregious. You’d normally expect coaches to play the peacemaker but he forced his son to do so.

Brunson hasn’t addressed this incident just yet, but he probably will at some point in the near future. DiVincenzo, on the other hand, did speak on talking trash to Tom Thibodeau and that exchange with Brunson.

“I didn’t say thanks for the trade. It was about a finish. I was joking with Thibs about not being able to finish… I saw the clip, I wasn’t talking to Thibs. I didn’t say anything about the trade. It’s all good.”

DiVincenzo, who was traded to the Timberwolves by the Knicks this offseason, wasn’t interested in sharing what he and Brunson spoke about, however.

“Just words, I don’t know. I don’t really have a comment on the situation. We’ll talk about it privately.”

Well, thanks to that user on X, we now know what went down between DiVincenzo and Brunson. I don’t expect it to cause a big rift and the whole situation has probably been addressed privately by now.

The Timberwolves and the Knicks next face off against each other on Dec. 19, 2024, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see DiVincenzo and Brunson share a hug on the court that night, to squash any and all talk regarding beef.

Anthony Edwards Has Enjoyed Playing With Donte DiVincenzo

DiVincenzo has made quite a positive impressive on the Timberwolves since his arrival via trade and Anthony Edwards has loved what he has seen from him. Edwards stated it has been incredible playing with DiVincenzo.

“F****** incredible,” Edwards said. “I don’t need the ball. You see it. I’m having fun, man. It’s fun to play with Donte. I haven’t even got to play with Julius (Randle) yet so we see what that look like but playing with Donte is—f***, I’m not going to lie—it’s fun as hell.”

DiVincenzo has averaged 10.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 0.3 steals per game in the preseason while shooting 54.5% from the field and 53.8% from beyond the arc. His outside shooting is going to be key for the Timberwolves after they traded away Karl-Anthony Towns to acquire him and Julius Randle.
