Jordan Poole’s debut season with the Washington Wizards was marred by poor moments on the court, with almost every laughably bad lowlight going viral, something that hasn’t changed this season.

Poole was at the center of a disastrous four-second stretch in the Wizards’ 96-121 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers where he turned the ball over, contested a James Harden buzzer heave too early, and then fouled Harden on the attempt by being out of position and jumping into him.

The Washington Wizards have already cemented themselves at the bottom of the NBA standings with a 2-15 start to the season, losing their last 13 games in a row. The is clearly in the midst of a rebuild and giving minutes to their young cast of players like Bub Carrington, Bilal Coulibaly, and more.

Poole is getting consistent minutes for the franchise, averaging 20.3 points and 4.7 assists this season. The team still has him under contract till 2028, so there’s no point in benching him until he’s a somewhat tradeable asset down the line.

Poole could improve his value by just being a consistent guard threat on the court, but his stock seems to be diminishing every season, especially with his lack of impact on the Wizards.

He had a whole host of lowlights last season, whether it was trying to push his teammate out of the corner for a three-pointer or taking unserious shots at the end of games with no attempt of earning a win. The former champion hasn’t brought a championship mentality to the Wizards despite his obvious on-court talent.

Jordan Poole Could’ve Still Been On The Warriors

Everyone saw the inconsistencies in his game when he was an emerging star on the Golden State Warriors, but they lived with it due to his high-level production for a winning franchise. We haven’t seen that version of Poole after the 2021-22 season, as Poole’s rise on the court allegedly made him cocky in the locker room, much to the chagrin of Draymond Green, who wound up punching Poole during training.

Green and Poole tried co-existing for the 2022-23 season, but the Warriors moved him off in the summer of 2023 to ensure the team could be harmonious on the court. While the team got worse in the 2023-24 season without Poole and missed the Playoffs, they look like a top-tier West team this season, with Draymond playing a huge role in their success.

The Wizards and Warriors have already met this season, with Poole and Green sharing visible awkwardness. They got feisty with each other after Poole taunted Green after a three-pointer, prompting Green to respond with his own taunt for a Stephen Curry three. Poole also didn’t let rookie guard Bub Carrington mingle with Draymond, drawing a clear line in the sand.

If Poole’s ego stayed in check and if Draymond didn’t end up unprofessionally knocking him out, the Warriors could have remained competitive. Steve Kerr brought the best and most disciplined play that we have seen from Poole in his career, with that version of the guard no longer existing on the Wizards.

Poole could one day find his spark as a winning player once again, but as long as he creates lowlights like this on the worst franchise in the NBA, no team will be willing to take a chance on him.
