Nuggets Coach On Nikola Jokic: ‘He’s The Steve Nash Of Bigs’

2 Min Read

Nikola Jokic is an enigma among big men. His particular skillset is not we we’d normally see in traditional bigs today.

Instead of playing under the rim or shooting from distance, he does a little bit of everything and plays as a facilitator for his teammates. He’s averaging 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 6.9 assists this season (highest among centers) as he leads the Nuggets to a 43-22 record in the West.

There have been a lot of comparisons between Jokic and other legends but the most recent one made by Denver coach Mike Malone may be the most interesting yet.

The Steve Nash of bigs? That kind of compliment doesn’t come lightly, but it fits.

The passing skills of Jokic are unlike anything we’ve ever seen from a big man and, by some accounts, he’s the first “point forward” in NBA history.

Unfortunately, Jokic has gotten a lot of criticism for other aspects of his game that some feel is lacking. Mostly, it’s his defensive abilities that leave much to be desired.

Still, your opinions on Jokic, his impact is undeniable. He helps facilitate the offense for Denver in a waythat gives them a significant advantage over their opponents. And, clearly, people are taking notice.
