Just a few months ago, any NBA fan in the country would have labeled Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley as mortal enemies. But now, with both players donning the Purple and Gold, Patrick Beverley says that Russ is the closest thing he had to a best friend on the team.

In a chat with Spectrum during the Lakers’ media day, Bev got real on his relationship with the former MVP and detailed one story about the time he gained the ultimate respect for him.

The Time Russell Westbrook Gave Patrick Beverley’s Sister Courtside Tickets To His Game

According to Beverley, Westbrook once helped his sister get into the game with some courtside seats even though the two players barely knew each other at the time. It was a moment that stuck with Beverley through the years and remains engrained in his memory today.

“I’ve never told anyone this story. This is when Russ was playing for the Houston Rockets. What me and Russ have, like… I’m at every chapel and he’s at every chapel. So like, the feud starts there but I’m trying to get right with Jesus at the same time. So we play Houston and he comes to me during the game like, ‘yeah man I got your sister courtside seats.’ But I’m in so much game mode that the only thing I’m hearing is ‘my sister’ so I’m turning around like ‘what the f**k is going on?’ The play calms down, I’m at the free throw line. I absorb what he says, I look at my sister, she’s on the floor and he gave her her seats. He don’t know me from a can of paint. This is a story he hasn’t told, I haven’t told. And the next day I go to him during the game and I say ‘that’s real as f**k. That’s real that you did that.’ From that point on, if I was to name a best friend so far that I’ve been on the same floor with, it’s him.”

It was obviously very cool of Westbrook to take care of Beverley’s sister like that. It was something he didn’t have to do and showed Beverley what kind of person he was.

Now that the two are teammates, they can feed off each other’s energy to deliver a ton of valuable minutes for the Lakers. And while there are doubts about what they can do together, Russ and Beverley seem more than optimistic about working together.

It will be interesting to see how they perform with so much at stake in this campaign.
