2 Min Read

The death of Kobe Bryant rocked the NBA community. As one of the greatest tragedies of the modern era, Kobe’s death inspired many to live each day as if it was their last. For former NBA superstar Gilbert Arenas, he was tasked with a special mission from Bryant: to stop fooling around in social media and start sharing his basketball knowledge as a coach.

“I will fulfill the task u requested from me in this picture You told me to use my bright basketball mind on some form of coaching on an nba/college bench or coaching kids stop wasting it being an idiot on social media….Today I’m starting my coaching career with @socalcavs 14u “the legacy of an assassins mind will live on” #mambamentality Location: Birmingham High School 17000 Haynes St, Van Nuys, CA 91406 Days: Every Tuesday and Thursday 5-11 years old | 6:00 – 8:00pm 12-15 years old | 7:00 – 9:00pm.”

Recently, Arenas posted a picture of himself fulfilling that request. On Instagram, he shared a picture of himself coaching at a kid’s basketball camp in Van Nuys.

Kobe was one who always believed in helping others. He wanted other people to follow suit and challenged Arenas to share his basketball knowledge instead of sitting around and doing nothing with it.

While Bryant’s death is nothing short of heartbreaking, it has clearly inspired some good things. Knowing Kobe, that’s exactly the way he’d want his death to impact the community.
