Ray Allen Says Steph Curry Is Not The Greatest Shooter Ever: “Reggie Is The GOAT…”

2 Min Read

Love him or hate him, most people agree that Steph Curry is the greatest long-distance shooter the game has ever seen. With over 2,000 career three-pointers made, two MVP awards, and 3 NBA Championships, Curry’s talent with the ball has re-shaped the way the game is played.

Yet, in a shocking twist, another notorious long-distance shooter (Ray Allen) denied Steph’s claim as the 3-point GOAT. In a chat with Macklin Stern of CBS Sports, he explained why, in his opinion, Reggie Miller is the one who holds that title.

“Steph is more on the ball, the point guard shooter. So it’s a different approach to the game. He’s an extremely incredible ball-handler, so it’s a different mentality when you’re handling the ball and not coming off screens. But I look at Reggie Miller and what he did—run off screens and just the fluidity of the game when he played it. For me, he was somebody I always looked up to and thought was amazing at how he performed his tasks.

Yes, Reggie [is the GOAT] because of the way he set the game up, the way he played the game. Obviously, I incorporated a lot of who he is into how I played. He was the standard-bearer. Without him, we don’t have a formula for moving forward. So that’s how I view it because it allowed me to do the things that I was capable of doing.”

Steph has already surpassed Miller in Championships and made 3-pointers. He also tops him with MVPs.

Still, it seems Reggie deserves more credit for his hand in the 3-point boom. Before there was Steph, or Klay, or Durant, or even Allen, it was Miller who was torching the league. He was the guy during a time where making threes wasn’t really a priority.

Nevertheless, to say he’s the best shooter ever is a pretty hot take. What do you think?
