Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett have one of the most entertaining podcasts in the world of basketball. However, a recent conversation around former foes caused some trouble.
Garnett and Pierce mocked former Nets’ forward Richard Jefferson, with Pierce claiming he would drop 40 on R-Jeff regularly, while both plays called him ‘sweet.’ Well, Jefferson’s response wasn’t sweet at all.
“Paul Pierce was one of the best players of our generation, 100% better than me. Comparing me to him is like comparing him to D-Wade, it’s a different stratosphere. We don’t even do that. But let’s address what he said. Bro, we beat you 10 out of 11 times. We beat you 3 times in the postseason in the Conference Finals. You won a game. There was a Christmas Day game and we beat you by 40 in front of all of America, and I was the starting small forward. Then you proceeded to follow that up with 8 straight losses, including getting swept in the postseason. I am not gonna act like I was a better player than you, but to disrespect and act like sh*t was sweet? I think their definition of sweet is a little different. We beat you 10 out of 11 and kicked you out of the playoffs with a sweep. Yeah, but this sh*t sweet.”
It’s all love @paulpierce34 …. I feel like there might be a little bitterness when you talking about the sweetness. Congrats on the Hall of Fame pic.twitter.com/JZNJpPfrT7

Naturally, Jefferson was upset over the comments that Pierce and KG made. The best part about his response was the dig at Pierce’s all-time ranking next to Dwyane Wade, as Pierce has said multiple times that he was better than Wade. RJ couldn’t have been more polite in his response and still manage to be vicious in terms of the jibes he threw.
Former Players Turned ESPN Analysts Become Rivals Again?
Even though the primes of both players came at different times in different situations, they spent a long time in the league playing against each other. Paul Pierce ended up winning 22 of their 36 head-to-head battles, making the argument R-Jeff has less ground to stand on.
Jefferson understands who he was as a player and knows he can’t compete against Pierce. However, RJ has the same amount of championships as Pierce despite their wildly different career paths. These shots thrown over a podcast may have ramifications on the relationship between the two, as more shots may fly in the future.
