Richard Jefferson took a shot at Kendrick Perkins and the 2008 Boston Celtics team when the latter shared his views on the Phoenix Suns’ superteam after they traded for Bradley Beal earlier this week.

Jefferson bought up the infamous beef between former Celtics star Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo and hinted that the feud could have been the reason why they didn’t win another title.

“I’m positive there was no tension in that Celtic locker room during your championship runs.” RJ said, to which Perkins responded with a “There wasn’t.”

The former Cleveland Cavaliers star didn’t stop there. “Tell that to Rondo and Ray,” he added and when Perkins replied that it was after the 2008 championship win, RJ had an ultimate roast ready: “Oh ok, so that’s why you guys never won again.”

It was a stinging statement, and while Perkins looked visibly frustrated, he did break into a laugh soon after.

The 2008 Celtics team had one of the best rosters in the league, comprising of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen as their best stars. In Rajon Rondo, they had a skilled guard who was known for his flamboyance and big assists.

But despite the title win, the relationship in the locker room wasn’t cordial, with Allen and Rondo beefing. This was looked at as one of the factors behind the team’s unable to replicate their title run in 2009 and 2010.

And RJ didn’t pull his punches when he reminded Perkins of the beef that pretty much was murky from the get-go.

Kendrick Perkins Revealed That Ray Allen And Rajon Rondo Settled Their Differences Via A Boxing Bout

In what will go down as a story straight out of a movie script, the former Celtics big man revealed that the team asked Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo to settle their beef via a boxing bout, a fact that was confirmed by Glen Davis.

”When things started to go south, in my opinion, the first incident was when Ray was pushing so hard to trade Rondo for [Chris Paul],” Perkins said on The Old Man And The Three podcast.

“It got back to Rondo. Right there we started having a little friction. We made Ray and Rondo actually box it out. They had so much beef we got to the practice facility, we brought the boxing gloves and they actually had to box it out because we didn’t want to the tension no more.”

In the end, the bout didn’t really help the feud as Allen exited from the Celtics in 2012 and linked up with the Miami Heat. But what is still hard to imagine is two famous stars going at it in the ring to settle their differences.
