LeBron James and Anthony Davis have been teammates since the 2019-20 NBA season. During their first year of becoming teammates, the duo led the Los Angeles Lakers to an NBA Championship.
But since then, James and Davis haven’t really made a mark in the postseason. There is a possibility that the duo’s relationship is no longer the same. CBS Sports’ Bill Reiter believes James is frustrated with his second in command.
“LeBron’s moody,” Reiter said on The Zach Gelb Show. “LeBron changes his mind on people, and here’s something that he thinks is true one minute… I have heard he’s over Anthony Davis. He’s frustrated with the guy. He doesn’t believe in his toughness for obvious reasons.”

Anthony Davis is a great player when he’s healthy. But staying healthy consistently is AD’s Achilles heel. Even in the 2022-23 NBA season, Davis played just 56 games. Although he averaged 25.9 PPG, 12.5 RPG, and 2.6 APG in those games, James is at that stage of his career where he needs to take a backseat in the regular season.
A perfect player to complement James would be someone who can stay healthy. It’s one of the reasons why Gilbert Arenas suggested that the Lakers should trade Anthony Davis this summer.
Are The Lakers Planning To Trade Anthony Davis?
The Los Angeles Lakers finished the 2022-23 NBA season as the seventh seed in the Western Conference. Sure, they made it to the Western Conference Finals, but the Lakers were clearly outplayed by the Denver Nuggets.
Despite getting swept in the Conference Finals, Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka wants to invest in the duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
“LeBron and AD as two pillars is, you know, to us an unmatched combination that will continue to lean into and build around and both incredibly high character players that want to win, play the game the right way,” Pelinka said. “We’re proud of that combination of superstars and want to continue to invest in that and invest in advancing the growth we had this year into next season.”
The Lakers are expected to make major changes to their roster this summer, but breaking up the dynamic duo of James and Davis doesn’t seem to be on the checklist for Pelinka.
