Russell Westbrook had quite the response when he was asked about the Golden State Warriors leaving him open.
“I can do anything I want,” he said, per Sports Illustrated’s Joey Linn. “Which is great for me. So good luck to everybody who continues doing that.”

Westbrook’s answer comes on the back of the Clippers’ game against the Golden State Warriors earlier this month when Draymond Green didn’t even attempt to guard the 34-year-old when he was at the three-point line. The plan proved to be a success as he went 0-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Later, Green explained the plan behind not guarding Westbrook. “It makes you think for sure because you’re open every play, he said, according to NBC Sports.
“You’re taught in basketball [that when] you’re open, you take the shot but if you’re open every play, you kind of start questioning yourself,” the forward said. “I thought we did a good job executing.”
It does appear that Westbrook doesn’t care.
Tyronn Lue Talks About Russell Westbrook’s Fit With The LA Clippers
While Westbrook, just like any other player in the league, comes with his fair share of flaws, the Clippers have managed to get the best out of him.
Earlier this month, head coach Tyronn Lue spoke to the media ahead of the game against the New York Knicks and explained how he was a solid fit with the side.
“It’s a 100 percent buy-in and he’s been great,” Lue said. “Even last game when he didn’t go back in just talking to T-Mann, talking to the guys, staying engaged, cheering for his teammates and it was huge. And so what he’s brought to our team has been great just far as we’ve been asking to do a lot of different things and trying to learn on the fly, not a lot of time to really have time to really practice it and go over it. So he’s been doing a lot of things on the fly, but he’s been great.”
With the Clippers, Westbrook now has a legitimate chance of making a deeper run in the playoffs and perhaps even going the distance. He’s been doing well with the side putting his astute playmaking skills and explosiveness to good use.
It remains to be seen that he does indeed end up holding the silverware by the end of it all. And even if he doesn’t, he’s not one to get bullied into something he wouldn’t appreciate.
