Los Angeles Lakers Could Reportedly Trade Anthony Davis This Summer

Anthony Davis might be shipped away this summer if the Los Angeles Lakers fail to make the playoffs for the second season in a row.

All eyes are on Anthony Davis as the Los Angeles Lakers look to make the playoffs in the absence of LeBron James.

But, should they fail to make the postseason for the second time in a row, then the Lakers will consider trading the big man this summer, said Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley.

“This will be the fourth time in five seasons that he hasn’t played 60 games,” Buckley wrote. “He last cleared the 70-game mark in 2017-18. And even when he plays, he holds himself back a bit.”

In his column, where he explained the big moves LA must consider if they fail to attain their objective of making it past the regular season, Buckley said the possibility of the franchise moving Davis could not be ruled out.

That said, Davis has been playing through injuries this season. This time around, he’s played 44 games and has been averaging 26.1 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. With no timeline for James’ return yet, the focus has been on the center to see if he can deliver.

Will The Los Angeles Lakers Trade Anthony Davis?

For all the talent, the Lakers might just decide to trade Davis this summer if he fails to live up to the expectations. Earlier, NBA analyst Colin Cowherd believed that he would be traded.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “Good to see AD’s trade value rise. Gonna need that when they move him this offseason.” While it does look unlikely that the Lakers will move Davis, there have been ample options that have been doing the rounds on how they could land a superstar by doing away with Davis.

“LeBron James is sending a message to one Anthony Davis,” Chris Broussard said on First Things First. “AD is young, 29 years old. AD this summer is something that’s going to be interesting. Dallas’ objective this summer is Kyrie for AD sign-and-trade. If AD doesn’t ball in these last 23 games, the Lakers might look at something like that.”

All things said, Davis is still the Lakers’ best bet to make a deeper run in the playoffs should James’ return be delayed. Only time will tell if he can indeed prove critics wrong and cement himself in the pantheon of Laker greats in the seasons to come.
