Lonzo Ball was a key part of the Chicago Bulls’ early-season success. There’s no doubt that his defense and playmaking were integral for them. Prior to his knee injury, Lonzo Ball was averaging 13.0 PPG, 5.4 RPG, and 5.1 APG.

While there was some hope among Bulls fans that Lonzo Ball would return for the playoffs, it seems as though that won’t be the case. Shams Charania has recently revealed that Lonzo Ball “continues to feel discomfort” in his knee despite having tried “several recovery methods to return to action”. That is definitely unfortunate news for the Chicago Bulls.

Sources: Bulls guard Lonzo Ball is expected to be shut down for the remainder of the season. Ball has been rehabbing from meniscus surgery in late January, but continues to feel discomfort amid several recovery methods to return to action and a bone bruise in his knee.

There is no doubt that the Chicago Bulls are a much better team with Lonzo Ball on the court. However, now they will have to rely on their depth and put a bigger load on other players. Rookie Ayo Dosunmu in particular will be crucial in the playoffs, and he’s been having a great year.

Even without Lonzo Ball though, the Chicago Bulls have a solid squad. They have one of the best wing duos in the league in DeMar DeRozan and Zach Lavine, as well as former All-Star Nikola Vucevic. They will likely still be a tough opponent for other Eastern Conference teams in the playoffs simply due to the talent on their roster. They were widely viewed as a contender at the start of the season, but have since struggled. Hopefully, they are able to make do without their point guard, and we’ll have to wait to see how they do in the postseason.
