  • Stephen A. Smith calls out Lakers big man for toxic inconsistency
  • Pressure is building For Davis to step up as the lead guy for the Lakers
  • LeBron sightings in the gym are drawing questions about Anthony Davis

LeBron James‘ astounding durability is a borderline miracle when you consider the thousands of miles of work his body has endured over the past two decades. LeBron is no stranger to this impressive feat and recently went to Instagram to post his latest message for the fans.

But after his post went viral online, and caught the attention of Stephen A. Smith, the message was twisted around and used to expose Anthony Davis. “The greatest thing to me was his conditioning and his commitment to being in shape. It was a travesty that this man, in his 20th season, was in better shape than most of the league last year, including his teammate Anthony Davis,” said Stephen A.

Davis, who joined the Lakers in 2019, is their best player on paper but he’s missed a large percentage of games over the years and his constant battle with injuries has held him back from reaching his true potential.

“When I think about LeBron in shape, the first name that comes to mind is Anthony Davis,” said Stephen A. “This man vouched for you, he put his name on the line for you, but he can’t score 40 points in one game and 11 in another.”

As alluded to by Smith, the issues with Davis extend far beyond his unavailability. Even when he’s on the court and playing, you never really know which version of him you’re going to get. At his best, AD can be a dominant force good for an instant double-double. At his worst, he can go almost completely invisible and timid offensively.

Lakers Are Counting On Davis As The Future

Despite a complicated history, the Lakers doubled down on their ties to Davis with a massive three-year, $186 million extension after he averaged 25.9 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game last season. So, no matter what the future is for LeBron, Davis is sticking around for the long haul, and he’s going to be their guy for the foreseeable future.

While not as durable or available as most Lakers fans would like, he’s got the experience, attitude, and talent needed to build something special in Los Angeles.

To make it happen, however, he will have to find a way to stay on the court and find some semblance of consistency. If he can do that, the sky is the limit for the post-LeBron Lakers.
