The Golden State Warriors have been terrible on the road this season, so it doesn’t help that their next five games are all on the road.

One of those sees them take on the Memphis Grizzlies and Stephen Curry was asked whether he thinks of them as a rival, considering the tensions between the two teams.

“I don’t want to be short, but no,” Curry said. “It’s just a team that is tough to beat, they’re really talented, but first off we got four more games before that to take care of our business before we get to Memphis. It’s more so just a team you know you need to play well to beat, but the history isn’t there really yet, so just block that out and play basketball.”

(starts at 7:00 mark):

Klay Thompson nodded in agreement as Curry said the history just isn’t there yet. It might seem like these two teams have been at each other’s throats forever, but it’s not really even been a year since tensions rose between them. It all started during their playoff series last year and has escalated dramatically since then.

There’s been a whole lot of taunting and name-calling from both sides, with Draymond Green and Dillon Brooks, in particular, going at it. They were involved in a heated altercation when these teams last met and it won’t be a surprise if something similar happens when they face off on the 18th of March. The season series currently stands at 2-1 in favor of Golden State and the Grizzlies would be keen to even it up in that one.

Draymond Green Also Spoke On Why Warriors-Grizzlies Isn’t A Rivalry

While Curry gave a diplomatic response to the question here, Draymond did not hold back after that March 9th game. He said there is no rivalry because the Warriors have won four titles while the Grizzlies are yet to win one. The Warriors will forever have bragging rights because of their titles and until the Grizzlies go on and win it all, they’re not even going to acknowledge them as rivals.

Rivals or not though, there is no denying that the Warriors-Grizzlies matchup is must-watch television for every neutral. These teams do not like each other and it would be quite entertaining to see them face off in the postseason. The Grizzlies have all but booked their tickets to the playoffs as they are the second seed with a 41-26 record but the Warriors still have some work to do as their 36-33 record sees them at fifth in the Conference. They should make it in though and one can only hope that we get this matchup at some point.
