“The Biggest Box That We Checked Is Our Unselfishness”: Bradley Beal Gets Real On His New Suns Teammates

Bradley Beal reflects on his trade to Phoenix and playing with KD and Devin Booker.

Hours after taking control of the Phoenix Suns, team owner Mat Ishbia pulled off the biggest trade of the season by adding Kevin Durant to play with Devin Booker. Immediately they became title contenders, but the Suns didn’t go very far in the playoffs before being sent home in defeat.

The response from the Suns has been to add even more talent, and now they stand with, arguably, the most talented trio in basketball after trading for Bradley Beal. It’s too early to say how this new superteam will perform, but Beal seems extra motivated to find success with his new team.

“I get antsy just thinking about it because I haven’t had those opportunities. But I’m excited about it, we have a lot of dynamic scorers. The biggest box that we checked is our unselfishness, all of us just want to compete, we want to play hard, and the biggest thing—we want to win.”

The Suns came within two wins of the Conference Finals last season, but their lack of depth and chemistry was their downfall in the end, especially against a Nuggets team that had very few flaws.

Beal obviously doesn’t help fill out their weak bench, but his arrival gives the Suns another go-to option outside of Booker and Durant. It also ensures the Suns will be playing at least two All-Stars at all times.

Are The New-Look Suns The Favorites In The West?

If you look only at the top-end talent, no team in the league can compete with Phoenix. Between Booker, KD, and Beal, they have an unstoppable scoring trio that will give their opponents hell.

“Bradley Beal, KD, and D Book? Three of the most prolific scorers in the game today on one team,” said Kendrick Perkins. “James Jones is out here selling used cars for Rolls-Royce because that’s exactly what just happened. The fact that he was able to keep Deandre Ayton was huge.”

Of course, there may still be more moves coming for the Suns, and it’s been known that they plan to have conversations with Kyrie Irving this summer.

But no matter how Ishbia fills out this roster, the Suns are looking pretty good, and it’s hard to deny that this is their best chance to finally win a title.
