Damian Lillard seems happy to be with the Portland Trail Blazers for his career, but he has made it clear that he doesn’t want to be a part of a rebuild. As such, various teams are being linked with a trade for him. And the latest name out of the rumor mill is the Brooklyn Nets.
“I can see the Nets going for Dame, but he’s older, and that contract is so high,” an NBA executive told HoopsHype. “He could be worth a couple of firsts and a good young player.”
Another executive explained why the Brooklyn Nets should try and get Damian Lillard. They have assets and some excellent pieces to pair with him, but he did point out that Ben Simmons would have to be involved in any deal.
“Dame would be the leader they (Nets) need. I’m just not sure they have the pieces to get him, but they should try. The picks they have coming in aren’t great. It would probably take Ben Simmons’ contract to make the numbers work, but you’d have to attach picks to him on top of the picks you need for Lillard.”
Damian Lillard had his best scoring season in 2022-23, averaging an incredible 32.2 points per game while shooting efficiently. He is one of the most clutch players in the league too, and any team would be lucky to have him. The Nets don’t have the best recent history with superstars, but they do have the assets to go and get him.
The Lakers And Bulls Have Also Been Mentioned In The Conversations Around Damian Lillard
The Brooklyn Nets came into the conversation after Lillard was seen sitting courtside at Game 3 between the Nets and Sixers. The Sixers could also be an option if James Harden decides to move on. And those aren’t the only teams mentioned around him.
Blockbuster trades have been proposed that would see him join the Lakers. Apart from that, the Miami Heat have been mentioned as a team that could make a move, and Chicago has been urged to make a big move for him as well. Lillard will be coveted if he is available, and it would be great fun to see him in a winning situation.
