The Phoenix Suns have a really talented roster as of right now, with four max-level players already on the team. Many expect them to compete for the championship next year, if not win it all.

A recent graphic from ESPN revealed just how top-heavy the Phoenix Suns are. In fact, they are over the luxury tax with only five players: Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton, and Cam Payne.

Kevin Durant: $47,649,433

Bradley Beal: $46,741,590

Devin Booker: $36,016,200

Deandre Ayton: $32,459,438

Total Salary: $169.4 million

Luxury Tax Line: $165.0 million

There is no doubt that new Suns owner Mat Ishbia is ready to win immediately, and that was evident when the team made the blockbuster trade for Bradley Beal. The goal for them is to simply be more talented than everyone else, and they definitely have the most star power in the Western Conference. To fill out their roster, they have signed a number of players on the veteran minimum:

Eric Gordon: $3,196,448

Damion Lee: $2,528,233

Keita Bates-Diop: $2,346,614

Drew Eubanks: $2,346,614

Chimezie Metu: $2,019,706

Josh Okogie: $2,019,706

Yuta Watanabe: $2,019,706

The Phoenix Suns currently have $190,819,043 in salaries and they are $25,525,043 over the luxury tax line. Though the Phoenix Suns being deep in the luxury tax has robbed them of flexibility in trades and signings, it seems as though they are simply choosing to go all-in on their current core and ignoring any luxury tax penalties.

The Phoenix Suns Will Play Bradley Beal And Devin Booker Together In The Backcourt

There has been a lot of discussion about what the Phoenix Suns’ starting lineup will look like. Both Bradley Beal and Devin Booker are shooting guards, but it seems as though Frank Vogel is comfortable playing them in the backcourt without a point guard.

“I’m very comfortable with Beal and Booker as the starting backcourt, but we’re going to explore that fifth spot potentially being a Cam Payne or a point guard, and we’re going to explore it being a maybe a three or a four type defender position. Those things will play out in camp.”

“I love the idea of getting those guys down the floor with a point guard and advancing it up to him and letting them attack. But I know that they can handle it on their own as well.”

It remains to be seen how the Phoenix Suns actually end up doing on the court. They definitely have the talent to be successful at the highest level, and if they can develop their chemistry, they will be a scary matchup for every other team in the league.
