More often than not, players tend to get overpaid following great seasons, forcing teams to pay a lot of money to them even though they’re not actually capable of living up to the expectations and contribute properly.

Contents
  • 10. JR Smith – $14,720,000
  • 9. Allen Crabbe – $19,332,500
  • 8. Luol Deng – $18,000,000
  • 7. Bismack Biyombo – $17,000,000
  • 6. Timofey Mozgov – $16,000,000
  • 5. Tyler Johnson – $19,245,370
  • 4. Joakim Noah – $18,530,000
  • 3. Tristan Thompson – $17,469,565
  • 2. Carmelo Anthony – $27,928,140
  • 1. Chandler Parsons – $24,107,258

Teams are often found in tough spots with this players, as they rack up a lot of the cap space and prevent them from making moves on guys that could actually help their teams, so they wind up trying to buy them out or pairing them with picks or young assets in order to get them off their books.

And with the salary cap constantly rising, this tendency has also gone up, with a lot of players getting paid big time despite being pretty much scrubs right now. Today, we’ll let you know about the top 10 bad contracts of this upcoming season.

10. JR Smith – $14,720,000

JR Smith was terrific during the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Championship run but ever since, he’s looked pretty much washed out in both ends of the floor, getting cooked on defense and mightily struggling to hit from three-point land.

The Cavs are paying a lot of money and getting nothing out of JR Smith, who even cost them one game in the Finals after forgot the score of the game and didn’t try to score, sending the game to overtime, which the Cavs eventually lost.

9. Allen Crabbe – $19,332,500

Allen Crabbe fooled the Portland Trail Blazers and forced their hand to pay him over 19 million dollars as a restricted free agent, just to be traded to the Brooklyn Nets before the start of that campaign.

Crabbe was a major bust throughout his so-called breakout season and was unable to become a consistent scorer due to injuries, and considering how crowded the Nets backcourt is right now, he’s going to find it tough to improve this upcoming season.

8. Luol Deng – $18,000,000

Luol Deng must be one of the happiest and luckiest people on earth, getting as much as 18 million dollars a year to sit on the bench and watch Los Angeles Lakers games dressed in street clothes.

Deng isn’t a part of the Lakers’ rotation, nor he will be for the foreseeable future, and the veteran has no hurry to leave the team and take his talents elsewhere. It seems like his NBA career is pretty much over at this point.

7. Bismack Biyombo – $17,000,000

Following some impressive playoff performances with the Toronto Raptors, Bismack Biyombo pretty much confused the Orlando Magic that he is worth 17 million a year.

Biyombo is an above the average rim protector but is extremely heavy footed in the offensive end of the floor, not to mention he’s slow and often gets passed around as a very slow big man as well.

6. Timofey Mozgov – $16,000,000

Timofey Mozgov hasn’t been an important factor ever since helping the Cleveland Cavaliers dethrone the Golden State Warriors and win the Championship 3 seasons ago, and the fact that he’s still in this league at this point is kind of surprising.

Mozgov is an obsolete kind of big man nowadays and he’s extremely overpaid right now, up to the point that he’s only been passed around in salary dump deals and is a prime candidate to be bought out so he can head back to Europe.

5. Tyler Johnson – $19,245,370

Tyler Johnson is a very solid role player, but he’s also one of the most overpaid players in the world right now with his 19+ million a year deal, especially considering he’s not even a starter for the Heat.

Johnson has a lot of upsides and may wind up being a very good player, but he’s shown no signs of improvement and there’s absolutely no reason to pay him that much money, so congratulations to his agent, I guess.

4. Joakim Noah – $18,530,000

Not so long ago, Joakim Noah was considered to be one of the best centers in the world, not only because of his defensive expertise but also for his playmaking abilities and clutch scoring for the Bulls.

Noah is a former Defensive Player of the Year but has lost most of his rhythm, and after getting into a heated altercation with coach Hornacek, it seems like he’s not even going to play for the Knicks anymore and they’ll likely buy him out.

3. Tristan Thompson – $17,469,565

Tristan Thompson got in LeBron James’ good sign and the King pretty much granted him a lot of money following the NBA Finals a couple of years ago, so now the Cavs are stuck with a subpar big man for over 17 million a year.

Thompson is a top-notch offensive rebounder but is a defensive liability and an offensive non-factor, and now that James is gone from the Land, he might as well be moved or just bought out.

2. Carmelo Anthony – $27,928,140

The Oklahoma City Thunder have to be vastly regretting to have traded for Carmelo Anthony after the veteran forward was one of the worst players of the team the prior campaign, especially considering how much he’s owed for this upcoming season.

According to several reports, the team is keen to buy him out at some point of this upcoming week, as the former All-Star refuses to embrace a lesser role off the bench but isn’t worthy of that kind of dough.

1. Chandler Parsons – $24,107,258

10 Worst Contracts In The NBA Today Chandler Parsons

Chandler Parsons earned a lot of cash after thriving with the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks, but ever since signing with the Memphis Grizzlies, he’s been plagued with different injuries that have prevented him from actually contributing.

Parsons was a major bust for Grizzlies fans and was even booed by his home crowd every time he had the chance to play for the team, and he looks unable to go back to his former self and may even be out of the league any time soon.
