It was all going great for Tyler Herro just a few months back. He was in the midst of his best season in the NBA and was on his way to winning Sixth Man of the Year as he averaged over 20 points per game. He must have felt at the top of the world but it all came crashing down towards the end of the season.

He was bothered by injuries in the postseason and really struggled to make much of an impact for the Heat. Herro also missed 3 games in the Eastern Conference Finals and was limited to just over 6 minutes in Game 7 as Miami fell just short of a return to the Finals. It was unfortunately just a sign of things to come for Herro in the offseason.

Tyler Herro Posts Cryptic Instagram Story

When Kevin Durant requested a trade from the Nets and listed the Heat as one of his preferred landing spots, Herro suddenly found himself at the center of attention. The package that the Heat were offering was said to be centered around him which left him with a very uncertain future. He wasn’t too pleased with that as you might imagine and now that KD is staying with the Nets, what would have made him even more upset is the fact that he is yet to land an extension with the Heat. He seemingly took to Instagram to post a cryptic message on the matter.

Herro was eligible for his rookie extension this summer but there is no concrete news on that front as of yet. A report did come out that he is unlikely to get the max extension and that his deal would be along the lines of what RJ Barrett got from the Knicks.

Herro would feel he has proven a lot more than Barrett in their 3 seasons in the league, and he has, but if he does desire a max extension, then that would explain why the two sides have failed to reach an agreement. Herro is a good player but he is a fringe all-star at best and players like that don’t get paid the big bucks.

He also found himself being talked about for another trade recently, with former coach David Thorpe suggesting that the Heat should trade Herro to the Suns for Cameron Johnson. Johnson was picked just 2 spots ahead of Herro in that 2019 NBA Draft and Thorpe believes that he would help fill the void left by PJ Tucker’s departure. As long as these contract negotiations drag on, Herro can expect his name to be brought up in trade talks, as he is the most attractive commodity that the Heat would be willing to part ways with in this offseason.
