Derrick Rose may have just played four minutes against the Chicago Bulls at the United Center, but his taking the floor was enough for the franchise to give him a stellar welcome.
Rose was the star for the Bulls between 2008-16, and his time with the team saw him make the All-Star game thrice and become an MVP in 2011. The former No. 1 overall draft pick in 2008 had family and friends in attendance, and they were not disappointed when he suited up and entered the game.
The deafening cheers only got louder when he drained a three, adding more emotion to the whole game. It wasn’t the greatest of outings for Chicago as they were blown out 114-91, but that disappointment took the backseat briefly when Rose made his appearance.

He found himself out of New York’s rotation after the side’s loss to the Dallas Mavericks earlier this month. His minutes diminished the minute young guard Miles McBride replaced him. And per the New York Post, he said he was ready when coach Tom Thibodeau asked him if he wanted to enter the clash.
“I couldn’t say [what I told him] right now because they’d fine me or something like that. But I told him I’m ready,” the 34-year-old Rose said. “So, I’m just blessed that we played a great game and it allowed me to go out there and play.”
Speaking about the reception, Knicks’ Jalen Brunson said:
“That was crazy. I think, out of this trip, that’s probably the most special moment.”
That said, Rose has been one of the names doing the rounds as one of the players the Knicks have on the trade market.
Derrick Rose Trade Rumors: Where Will The Former MVP Go Next?
Recent reports suggested that the Dallas Mavericks were keen on acquiring Rose. The team is in dire need of a reliable guard, and a seasoned veteran is just what they need. Rose fits the bill perfectly.
Earlier, they acquired Kemba Walker, and now, per Fox Sports’ Ric Bucher, Dallas was interested in having Rose in their ranks.
“The Mavericks, of course, lost [Jalen] Brunson to the [New York] Knicks last summer and are in desperate need of a second playmaker to relieve All-Star point forward Luka Dončić. They’ve brought on a former Knick, Kemba Walker, for a test run, but a league source said they also have interest in a current one, the aforementioned Rose.”
Rose has also been linked with the Los Angeles Lakers. According to The Athletic, the Knicks were keen on trading Rose and Immanuel Quickley, and Heavy reported that the Purple and Gold were reportedly interested.
The Los Angeles Lakers are interested in trading for a $43 million All-Star and former MVP. Heavy.com senior insider Sean Deveney spoke to an Eastern Conference executive who stated the Lakers “have always had interest” in New York Knicks point guard Derrick Rose, who is available in trade talks.
“He is always going to be the good soldier and he might not even want out of New York just because he and Thibs are so tight,” the exec told Deveney. “But he’s going to want to play at some point and he is going to want a chance to win. The Lakers have always had interest, but there is no way to make that deal work now with the contracts they have.”
While there are no concrete developments yet on where Rose would end up, there’s never a reason to write off the veteran. Only time will tell if he indeed becomes a Maverick, a Laker, or for some wishful thinking, a Bull.
