Donovan Mitchell’s future is very much up in the air as he remains a sought-after commodity in the trade market. Ever since the Jazz indicated their willingness to listen to offers for their star guard, teams have been lining up in the hope of acquiring his services.

The Knicks and the Heat have long been touted as landing spots for Mitchell, so when he showed up to play at the Miami Pro League, Heat fans took the opportunity to try to recruit him to the team.

They know their team desperately needs more firepower and Mitchell could definitely help with that. The Heat’s deficiencies on that end were on full display during the Eastern Conference Finals, as they struggled to generate offense on a consistent basis when Jimmy Butler was hampered by his injuries. They need to act quickly to get him, however, as while talks between the Knicks and Jazz have seemingly stalled, there remains plenty of interest around the league for Mitchell.

The Heat have also been keen on acquiring Kevin Durant after he had initially listed them as one of his preferred destinations after his trade request, but there hasn’t been a whole lot of traction on that end. That was to be expected as well, as the Nets’ asking price for KD is not something that the Heat can match considering the assets they have at their disposal, which led to many feeling they should target Mitchell instead.

NBA insider Kevin Pelton was one of those and he felt Mitchell would be a better fit than Durant, as he is younger and would allow them to reset their timeline and align it with Bam Adebayo. Mitchell, for his part, has not demanded a trade yet, so it is still a possibility that after all these trade talks, he might well end up staying with the team next season.
