But with the Lakers set to face off against the Raptors on Friday, it seems the team decided to celebrate Davis’ birthday a few days early. In a video that has since gone viral online, we get a glimpse into the festivities as LeBron called Davis an “old a–” after singing him the classic birthday song.
As you can tell from the video. the vibes in LA are immaculate right now. Even with James out of the lineup and currently in a walking boot, Davis was all smiles during the party as he was the center of cheers and applause.
For a Lakers team that has had to fight bitterly to keep their season alive, this must have been a nice break for them and for Davis as well, who is doing what he can to carry the Lakers to the playoffs.
Anthony Davis Is The Future For The Lakers
The Lakers need LeBron James at his best if they want any hope of making a respectable run this year, but Anthony Davis is the key to long-term prosperity for the franchise.
As a 30-year-old big man now in his prime, Davis has proven capable of monstrous performances before and he’s virtually unstoppable when he’s healthy and playing aggressively on the court.
Despite the injury concerns about Davis, especially as he gets older, he remains a hot commodity in the NBA and he will make or break this era of Lakers basketball.
“LeBron James is sending a message to one Anthony Davis,” said Chris Broussard on AD. “He is young, 29 years old. AD this summer is something that’s going to be interesting. Dallas’ objective this summer is Kyrie for AD sign-and-trade. If AD doesn’t ball in these last 23 games, the Lakers might look at something like that.”
At almost 40 years old, the Lakers can’t continue to lean on LeBron as they have been over the past few seasons. As he continues to age and declines further from his peak, the franchise will need more from Davis, who has yet to take the mantle as the leader from his co-star.
Hopefully, now that Davis has another year of experience under his belt, he’ll realize who he needs to be for the Lakers to win another championship.
